ROA # 3

ok, here it is!  All of Kate's accomplishments!

Primitive Reflexes
level 4 is highest, 0 is the reflex is gone

Rooting- started at 4, now at 1
Moro-    started at 2, still at 2
Grasp-    started at 1, still at 1
ATNR-  started at 2, now at 1
TLR-     started at 4, now at 1
STNR-  started at 4, now at 1
Landau- started at 2, now at 0  yippeee!! gone!
Spinal Galant- started at 4, now at 2

It is great that most primitives are at a one or 2.  The ones that are at a 1, are just about gone.  So a few more months of doing the exercises and *hopefully* they will be gone.

Vision

OPK- was 6, now 8 (goal 15)
VOR-was 13, now 14 (goal 15)
Visagraph(reading)- wasn't able to complete this the first time, 2nd assessment was grade 1.5, now grade 2.6  (she went up 2 grades in 6 months in reading!!)
Pupillometry- was 6, now 8 (goal 9.5)

Hearing and Smells she is at her age level, she started out high in both areas anyway

Touch
Arm touch- was 10, now 9 (which is good because she was overly sensitive)
Leg touch- was 8, now 9 (goal 9.5)

Fine Motor skills- was age 3, now age 6
PRNG- was level 9, now level 15 (highest level)  PRNG is maturity of balance and equilibrium system.
Proprioception- was age 5, still age 5 (though she did improve on the right side, but left was weaker and they go with the lower score)

Core

Supine- was age 4, now age 9
Prone- was age 6, now age 8
Lateral- was age 4, now age 7
Brachiation- was age 4, now age 7(but she can hold this longer, just on testing day this is what she did)
Sit ups- was age 4, now age 5
Push ups- was age 4, still age 4

Balance Beam- was age 8, still age 8
Gait and Aerobics- was age 4, now age 7
Interactive Metronome- was age 5, still age 5 (improved greatly, just not enough to move up 1 year)

So she improved so much in alot of areas and it is evident in what we are seeing in our day to day life.  There are still areas that she hasn't reached age level for and we are still working on those in our home program.  We will continue the primitive exercises and also do the exercises in the areas that she is not at age level.  We asked how many more sessions she would need to be at age level and balanced and they told us two.  So, right now we are going to work at getting these primitive reflexes to integrate and keep up the core exercises and right brain exercises.  And we will see about some more sessions.......a little later.  Kate is not interested in doing Brain Balance again for a while at least!

Just for me, yesterday....

THE DAILY GROOVE ~ by Scott Noelle

:: Soccer Field Parenting ::

I played a lot of chess when I was a kid, and I
learned that to win I had to pay attention to all
the pieces on the board -- to keep the *big picture*
in mind.

At school I noticed that when the other kids played
soccer, they focused only on the ball and mindlessly
*chased* it around the field. But my chess-trained
mind resisted the temptation to join the chaotic
"clump" of kids surrounding the ball. I paid
attention to the whole field and positioned myself
such that I could easily score goals when someone
kicked the ball out of the clump.

In parenting, children's *behavior* is like the
soccer ball, and the majority of parents are like
that clump of kids chasing the ball -- focusing too
much on behavior and missing the bigger picture.

Today, if your own parenting starts to feel like
that ball-chasing chaos, deliberately shift your
perspective to a more expansive view -- the
*context* in which your child's behavior is arising.
The context includes physical, emotional, and
developmental considerations.

When you want your child's behavior to change, and
you understand *why* it's happening, you can
lovingly address your child's underlying needs and
desires, and blend them creatively with your own.

Now *that's* teamwork! :-)

Home again Home again

I know I need to give the results of the final assessment but they are still packed, somewhere.....
But, we are home now and have been trying to settle in for the last few days.  We arrived home late Sunday night.

Kate is loving it!!  She has been playing outside a ton and she is loving being with all of her toys again.

It is quite the temperature change for me.  It was 76 today and I felt a little warm, but it doesn't even compare to 100 degrees.  So I have been wearing thermals and long pants and slippers, hehe.  Hopefully my body acclimates soon!

Exercises are going great!!  It is so much easier to get her to do them.  This morning, she even told me it was time to do them.  I was shocked.  She still is sassy and yells at me sometimes during them, but overall they are taking less time.  YAY!

I will write more later, but just wanted to let everyone know we are home.
